Course Description
Perfectionism is often mistaken for high standards or strong motivation, but maladaptive perfectionism can contribute to anxiety, shame, avoidance, procrastination, burnout, and conditional self-worth.
This one-hour clinical training introduces social workers and other behavioral health professionals to an REBT-informed framework for understanding maladaptive perfectionism. Participants will examine how rigid demands, performance-based self-evaluation, and fear of failure maintain perfectionistic patterns and learn practical cognitive and behavioral interventions that can be incorporated into clinical practice.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate adaptive and maladaptive forms of perfectionism in adult clients.
- Describe key REBT mechanisms underlying maladaptive perfectionism, including demandingness and conditional self-worth.
- Identify common behavioral and emotional presentations associated with perfectionism in clinical populations.
- Apply at least two REBT-informed interventions to address maladaptive perfectionism in practice.
Target Audience
Licensed social workers and other licensed behavioral health professionals seeking clinical knowledge and intervention strategies for working with adult clients experiencing maladaptive perfectionism.
Eligibility: This continuing education course is intended for licensed social workers and other licensed behavioral health professionals. It is not offered as a general public education event.
